For open-pollinated varieties, maintain isolation distances of at least 10-15 feet to prevent unwanted pollination. Handle the seeds gently to avoid damage, which can reduce viability.

Storage Conditions and Viability

Seeds stored in high humidity environments should be kept in a cool, dark place, ideally between 32°F and 50°F (0°C and 10°C). Maintain a relative humidity of 30-50% to slow down seed deterioration. Check the seeds periodically for signs of aging, such as reduced germination rates or mold growth. Seeds stored under optimal conditions can retain viability for several years, but it’s recommended to check their viability every 6-12 months by performing a germination test.
