Can you share your location using the inReach with friends?

Creating Groups and Sharing Location

To share your location with friends, create groups on the inReach device or through the Garmin Explore app. Each group can have up to 50 members. When creating a group, you can choose to share your location in real-time, or send location messages at specific intervals (every 2.5, 5, 10, 30, or 60 minutes). This feature is particularly useful for group trips or expeditions where multiple people need to stay connected.

Sending Location Messages

To send a location message, navigate to the ‘Groups’ menu on the inReach device or in the Garmin Explore app. Select the group you want to share your location with and choose ‘Send Location Message’. You can then select the interval at which you want to send location messages (e.g., every 10 minutes). The device will automatically send your location to the group at the specified interval.

Setting Up Friends and Following Trips

To start sharing your location, you’ll need to set up your friends as contacts on the inReach device or in the Garmin Explore app. Each friend can be added as a ‘Contact’ and can be assigned a role, such as ‘Primary Contact’ or ‘Group Leader’. When you’re planning a trip, you can invite friends to follow your trip by sending them a ‘Trip Invite’. This will allow them to track your location in real-time and receive location messages.
