During this time, bulls will be actively searching for receptive cows, and their vocalizations become more frequent and intense. Effective Calling Techniques for Bull Grunts

When calling elk, it’s essential to mimic the sound of a bull elk as closely as possible. To achieve this, use a diaphragm call or a grunt call that allows for precise control over the pitch and tone of the sound. Grunting sounds can be broken down into four distinct phases: the initial high-pitched note, a mid-pitched grunt, a low-pitched groan, and a final high-pitched note. To attract cows, the initial high-pitched note should be avoided, and the caller should focus on the mid-pitched grunt and low-pitched groan phases. A series of 10-15 calls, spaced 10-15 seconds apart, can be an effective way to initiate a response from cows.
