Field Day Activities: What Should You Expect At A Course?

Classroom Instruction

In the classroom portion of the hunter education course, you can expect to cover a wide range of topics, including firearms safety, hunting laws and regulations, and wildlife management. This is where you’ll learn about the fundamentals of hunting, such as how to handle firearms safely, how to identify game, and how to follow hunting laws and regulations. You’ll also learn about the importance of conservation and how to respect the environment and other hunters. The classroom instruction typically lasts around 6-8 hours and includes lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities.

Field Training

The field training portion of the hunter education course is where you’ll learn hands-on skills, such as how to use firearms safely, how to identify game, and how to navigate the field. This is also where you’ll learn about hunting techniques, such as tracking and stalking, and how to follow hunting laws and regulations in the field. The field training typically lasts around 4-6 hours and includes activities such as shooting range training, archery range training, and a mock hunt simulation. During this portion of the course, you’ll be working alongside certified instructors who will provide guidance and feedback throughout the training.

Written Exam and Practical Test

To complete the hunter education course, you’ll need to pass a written exam and a practical test. The written exam typically consists of 50-75 multiple-choice questions that cover topics such as firearms safety, hunting laws and regulations, and wildlife management. The practical test typically includes activities such as a shooting proficiency test, an archery test, and a mock hunt simulation. To pass the course, you’ll need to score at least 80% on the written exam and pass the practical test.
