Choosing the Right Lure

When selecting a lure for pre-rut mule deer, consider the time of day and the deer’s behavior. In the early morning and late evening, when deer are most active, use a strong, pungent scent like doe urine or tarsal glands. If hunting during the middle of the day, opt for a more subtle scent like “Muzzleloader” or “Coyote in Heat”, which can still attract deer without alerting them to your presence.

In the Great Basin region, where mule deer are common, a combination of doe urine and tarsal glands can be effective. Lure Placement and Timing
