To keep pigs in an off-grid environment, you’ll need to provide a secure, predator-proof enclosure with adequate shelter and shade. A well-insulated, three-sided shelter with a roof can protect your pigs from wind, rain, and sun. The shelter should be at least 6 by 8 feet in size and have enough ventilation to maintain clean air.

Nutrition and Water Management

Pigs are omnivores and can be fed a mix of grains, fruits, and vegetables. A reliable source of clean water is essential, and you can use rainwater collection systems or a well to meet their needs. A good rule of thumb is to provide 1 gallon of water per day per 100 pounds of pig. You can also supplement their diet with mealworms or other high-protein feed sources.

Off-Grid Fencing and Land Requirements

Pigs require about 1/4 acre of land per 5-10 pigs, depending on breed and purpose. A sturdy, 4-foot high fence made of wood, metal, or high-tensile wire can keep them contained.
