Breeding Pigs: A More Complex Option

Breeding pigs, on the other hand, require a larger operation and more expertise. To establish a breeding program, you’ll need to invest in a gilt (a young female pig) and a boar, as well as infrastructure for farrowing pens, nurseries, and grower pens. Breeding pigs can be raised for market meat, but they also offer the potential for generating income through the sale of breeding stock and weaners. However, this requires a significant upfront investment and a good understanding of pig genetics and reproduction.
