These apps are available for both iOS and Android devices.

Creating a Fire Escape Plan

A fire escape plan should be created with the entire household in mind, including children, seniors, and pets. The plan should include at least two exit routes from each room, and a designated meeting point outside the home where everyone can gather once they’ve escaped. It’s also essential to practice the escape plan twice a year, once at night and once during the day, to ensure everyone knows the route and can navigate it safely.

Meeting Points and Fire Extinguishers

Designating a meeting point outside the home is crucial in case someone gets separated from the family during an emergency. The meeting point should be a safe location, such as a neighbor’s house or a nearby landmark, where everyone can gather until help arrives. Fire extinguishers should also be located in easily accessible areas, such as the kitchen and near fireplaces. It’s essential to know how to use a fire extinguisher properly, with the PASS method: Pull the safety pin, Aim the nozzle, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep the extinguishing agent.
