Prepper Assessment
Living in this area offers a humid subtropical climate with an annual mean temperature of 67.3°F and ample rainfall at 48.8 inches per year. The growing season is favorable for various crops, supported by USDA zone 9b, allowing for a range of gardening opportunities. The terrain is predominantly rural, with a population density of 45.8 people per square mile, which may afford some privacy and space for self-sufficient living, though access to resources may vary by location.
Natural hazards present notable risks, with hurricanes being the leading concern, ranked at 79 by FEMA. Wildfire risk is also significant, rated at 61, which could impact land management and safety. The area has a moderate violence percentile of 68, indicating some concerns regarding safety, while the cost of living remains relatively affordable, with a median home price of $159,900. However, those seeking complete isolation may find the 80% rural population insufficient for their preferences.
This county may be suitable for individuals or families looking for a warmer climate and a rural lifestyle with reasonable access to amenities. Those who thrive in community settings with moderate safety concerns may find it a good fit. However, individuals seeking extreme remoteness or those particularly sensitive to natural disasters, such as hurricanes and wildfires, may find the risks too high to justify living here.
