Prepper Assessment

Living in this area offers a rural lifestyle with ample space, as evidenced by the low population density of 2.7 people per square mile. The climate features an annual mean temperature of 53.8°F and receives 22.9 inches of rain per year, which supports a growing season suitable for crops in USDA zone 7b. However, the dry sub-humid classification indicates that water conservation practices may be necessary for effective self-sufficient living.

This county faces several natural hazards, with drought and hail being notable concerns, ranked at 77 and 71 respectively on the FEMA scale. The area has a relatively higher violence percentile at 58, indicating some level of safety concerns compared to other regions. Additionally, while the median home price is affordable at $87,400, the economic landscape may limit opportunities for income generation, as the median household income is $47,071.

Graham County may be suitable for those seeking a quiet, rural lifestyle and are equipped to manage the challenges of drought and limited economic opportunities. Homesteaders with a focus on self-sufficiency and resilience in the face of natural hazards may thrive here. However, individuals seeking urban amenities, diverse job markets, or those uncomfortable with the risk of extreme weather may find this area less appealing.
