Prepper Assessment
Living in this area offers a humid subtropical climate with an annual mean temperature of 64.6°F and significant rainfall averaging 58.8 inches per year. The growing season is favorable for agriculture, supported by USDA zone 9b, which allows for a variety of crops. The terrain is primarily flat, with a mix of rural and suburban environments, providing some opportunities for self-sufficient living, though access to water sources will be essential given the county's humidity classification.
However, residents must be aware of several natural hazards. The area ranks high for tornado risk (95) and hail (98), indicating a need for preparedness against severe weather events. The density percentile at 83 suggests a relatively populated environment, which may impact the rural living experience. The median home price of $203,300 is reasonable, but the overall cost of living may be a consideration for those with limited income, despite the median household income being $76,460.
This county could be suitable for individuals or families seeking a semi-rural lifestyle with access to urban amenities, particularly those who are prepared for severe weather. However, it may not be ideal for those looking for extreme remoteness or minimal population density, as the area is relatively populated. The high disaster percentile could be a dealbreaker for those prioritizing safety from natural hazards, while the affordable housing may be a hidden gem for others.
