The climate is characterized by an annual mean temperature of 61.0°F and 51.1 inches of rain per year, supporting a growing season suitable for a variety of crops in USDA zone 9a. Other notable risks include winter weather (65), heat waves (64), and coastal flooding (52). While the area has a relatively high violence percentile of 62/100, indicating some safety concerns, the overall disaster percentile is lower at 34/100, suggesting a moderate risk environment. The median home price of $181,400 may be more accessible compared to other regions, but potential buyers should weigh this against the risk factors.
This county may be a good fit for individuals seeking a rural lifestyle with a warm climate, particularly those experienced in managing the challenges posed by hurricanes and heat. Homesteaders who are adaptable and resourceful could thrive here, especially if they focus on crops suited for the local climate. However, those who are risk-averse or unprepared for the area's natural hazards might find it less suitable, making the potential for hurricanes a critical dealbreaker for some.
